Examining Codes of Ethics

Hi Everyone,

For my class this week, I examined two Codes of Ethics from two organizations, NAEYC and The Division for Early Childhood. Personally, I have to say that I was especially struck by the Division's code. Three principles stood out to me in particular:

* Professional Practice

*Professional Development & Preparation

*Responsive Family Practices

As a prospective educator, I want to commit myself to always being a professional in my field. I also want to commit myself to being a lifelong learner so that I am always at the forefront of industry best practices. I will also commit myself to making sure that I am offering the best quality education to my students and offering resources to their families as partners in the education of their child. It is so important for me to be the best educator that I can be. A Code of Ethics is a wonderful foundation to look to for guidance on how to be just that.

Words Of Inspiration & Motivation

Hi Everyone!
John Dewey
Maria Montessori

This week I've been studying a number of VIP's in the Early Childhood Education field! Two of my favorite individuals are Maria Montessori, the creator of the Montessori Method of teaching, and John Dewey, one of the first philosophers to take a different look at the way America historically educated  it's children and offer alternative ideals. Through my research, I came across some wonderful quotes that are truly inspiring to me in my pursuit of knowledge in this field!

“Children are human beings to whom respect is due, superior to us by reason of their innocence and of the greater possibilities of their future.”
~Maria Montessori

“It is the child who makes the man, and no man exists who was not made by the child he once was.”
~Maria Montessori

 Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.
~John Dewey

Education, therefore, is a process of living and not a preparation for future living.
~John Dewey
